The Oriental Institute and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of the University of Chicago invite applications for three (3) open-rank tenure-track, or tenured, faculty positions in Assyriology, with preference for junior or mid-career candidates.

The earliest date appointments are anticipated to begin is July 2014; applications will be accepted and considered until all positions are filled. Review of applications will begin after September 1st, 2013.

Applications are welcome from scholars with a research focus in any period or subfield of Assyriology. The successful candidates should be able to teach a wide range of courses in Akkadian grammar, texts, and epigraphy and courses on Mesopotamian civilization and history, to supervise B.A. and M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations, and to carry out independent research and publication. Advanced knowledge of Sumerian is highly desirable.

The successful applicants must hold the Ph.D. degree before the appointment begins.
