From the Netherlands Institute for the Near East (NINO) and Leiden University’s Faculty of Humanities:

We are seeking applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cuneiform Studies. We offer a full-time, fixed-term position from September 2024 through August 2026.

Every year NINO opens one full-time postdoctoral position for the duration of two years (overlapping tenures). Each NINO Postdoctoral Fellow carries out original research at NINO, organises an international workshop on a related theme, publishes the proceedings in a NINO volume, and teaches a seminar for graduate students at OIKOS, the National Research School in Classical Studies in the Netherlands.

This year, we invite applications of researchers who work in the field of cuneiform studies in its broadest sense, including all time periods (4th millennium-1st millennium) and regions (Anatolia, Iran, the Levant and Mesopotamia). We also welcome applications of interdisciplinary scholars who engage with cuneiform studies.

Key responsibilities (a.o.):

  • Conduct original research on a topic in archaeology of the Near East (incl. Egypt);
  • Teach a graduate seminar on methods and concepts in ancient Near Eastern Studies;
  • Organize an international conference on a topic relevant to own research;
  • Disseminate the results of their research to (non-)academic parties through appropriate channels.

Selection criteria (a.o.):

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field of study, completed between January 2020 and February 2024;
  • A research and publication record that is commensurate with career stage;
  • Commitment to high-quality research, publication, and dissemination.

Applications are processed through Leiden University’s website: https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/vacatures/2024/q1/14477-postdoctoral-researcher-in-ancient-near-eastern-studies-10-fte
