1 postdoctoral post (TV-L 13, 100{518531fadeb811ae8faec8ba5977a8511c844f925d504d488b0d90b6c297e400}) At the DFG Research Training Group 1878 of the Universities of Cologne and Bonn on the topic of “Archaeology of Pre-Modern Economies”, 1 postdoctoral post (TV-L 13, 100{518531fadeb811ae8faec8ba5977a8511c844f925d504d488b0d90b6c297e400}) is to be filled effective from 01.10.2015. The post is limited to a 2-year period, with the option to extend by one year following a positive interim evaluation.
Objectives, issues
The aim of the RTG is to record economic systems and economic areas of premodern societies in terms of their structure, efficiency and dynamics (genesis, transformation processes through to a potential dissolution) as well as to analyse them in interaction with their respective physical geographical, political, societal, religious and cultural conditions. The investigations will be focused along three lines of research, ‘Economic Networks’, ‘Settlement Centres and Their Environs’ and ‘Religious Institutions as Economic Units’. More detailed information can be found in the research programme.
Subjects
The applicant should have a background in one of the involved subjects or related disciplines: Pre- and Early History, Egyptology, Classical Archaeology, Archaeology of the Roman Provinces, Christian Archaeology, Byzantine Studies, Ancient American Studies, Ancient History, Ethnology, Historical Geography.
Language
The RTG language is German. Language lessons can be taken free of charge if required.
Tasks
The postdoctoral researcher will be attached to the research line ‘Religious Institutions as Economic Units’. The post implies the opportunity to conduct research in own projects (eg comparative research, comprehensive models of synchronous economic systems or of intercultural contacts). In cooperation with the IPs the postdoc coordinates the work of the doctoral candidates on their dissertation topics (from several disciplines), especially with regard to the aspect of cultural comparison. The postdoc should actively participate in the activities of the Research Training Group, especially workshops and international colloquia.
Location and support
The postdoctoral candidate (m/f) will be employed at the University of Bonn. Willingness to move to the Cologne/Bonn region is expected.
Support measures
In addition to the post, resources for material and travel costs as well as for holding conferences are available. Both universities offer comprehensive further training measures. Doctoral candidates with children can obtain additional support.
