This year’s Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale is fast approaching.
The 65th RAI will take place in Paris, July 8th through 12th, 2019. We are very much looking forward to the discussions of this year’s meeting on the theme of: “Gods, Kings and Capitals in the Ancient Near East”.
The 65th RAI is organised with the support of the Collège de France, the Louvre Museum and the École du Louvre, and the CNRS’s UMR 7192. Indeed, we are thankful to all those who are involved in the preparation of this event.
Events in Paris will take place in two locations: in the lecture halls of the Collège de France, and in the lecture halls of the École du Louvre (on Wednesday 10th July).
Alongside sessions on the main theme, the rich program also includes 15 workshops focusing on aspects of technology, digital projects, epigraphy, cultural history, and current researches in Mesopotamian studies. A detailed program is available on the Rencontre website. Don’t forget to visit the display of poster presentations, too.
During the conference, a number of social and cultural events have been planned:
On Monday, July 8th from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, the Collège de France will host an opening reception.
On Tuesday, July 9th, there will be a reception for young Assyriologists (by invitation).
On Wednesday, July 10th, the Louvre Museum will host a reception, with free access to galleries (including the new Mari room) and to two exhibitions: Forgotten Kingdoms. From the Hittite Empire to the Arameans, and one celebrating the 90th anniversary of the excavations of Ras Shamra. Given the number of RAI attendees, the reception and museum visit will be divided in groups (a schedule will be circulated and placed in each participant’s “welcome bag”)
On Thursday, July 11th, 6:30 pm there will be a concert by composer and guitarist Christian Lavernier at the Collège de France.
Not to forget! The IAA’s general assembly is scheduled on Thursday, July 11th, at 4:45pm.
See you soon in Paris!
