The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Tsukuba is seeking an Assistant Professor in Philology and History of Ancient West Asia, with a focus on the study of the cuneiform cultural sphere.
The appointment is expected to commence as early as possible following
April 1, 2025.

Work content and job description
- Engaging in research activities and management at the Research Center for West Asian Civilization.
- Teaching courses in Philology and History of Ancient West Asia at the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Humanities.
Qualifications
- PhD / Doctor
- Candidates must have received specialized education in the philology and history of ancient Western Asia and be engaged in research in this field.
- Must be capable of conducting administrative duties, teaching, and research supervision in English.
- Proficiency in Japanese is desirable but not required.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have earned their PhD within the past seven years.
Contract period:
The appointment is for a total of 5 years (initially 3 years, with the possibility of an additional 2 years following a review). There is potential for transitioning to a tenure-track position.
